Hi, Byrd69:Nice one!
I got a C-28 at a flea market for $10 a few years ago, but mine had a broken front panel glass.
All the praying in that church will not make a C-28 sound good on the phono stages, however.
The C-28 has to be among the worst sounding phono preamplifiers I have ever heard and I have owned more than one example.
Perhaps if you took time to change all of the capacitors in your preamp and deal with the wiring harnesses, etc, you can make it sound better, but on the high level inputs it is acceptible.
Any decent tube-based phono circuit can give a C-28 a run for the money in my personal opinion.
And yes, I would certainly have asked where the matching amp was!
A great story indeed, however!
