Small outputs have the benefit of having smaller coil windings, thus less interwinding capacitances and inductive reactances. Sometimes, they have plenty of bass and great highs. Sometimes, not so great bass. The units in that 440 are good ones. The limitation in that amp is the voltage doubler power supply.
As their bay price keeps climbing, they must be worth a listen.
Speaking of small outputs, have you seen the Ampex speaker amps' output ? How about the ST35 and the HF81 ? They are not large, but compared to these little Fishers they are...
It's a crapshoot, really. They might surprise you, just like your hot rodded HF81 surprised you, pal...
