it's not likely to be a DC motor

Hi there

It is highly unlikely that the turntable has a DC motor. Since there is no such thing as a "DC transformer", to produce a DC voltage for such a motor entails a power supply, i.e. the AC output from a transformer has to be rectified (with diodes) and filtered (with capacitors and/or chokes). Why bother when there are AC motors?

On two old consoles I looked at, the turntable wiring went back to the main power switch. That could explain why the power cord would connect to the main unit, as opposed to having another wall plug.
