Thanx very much everyone for the replies. It's very informative.I appreciate that link. I think it will come in very hand. I was thinking about posting a link to these questions in the Tubes forum but didn't consider the DIY thread. I do expect to be 'tinkering'.
I had heard mention of upgrading the x-former on one thread where this amp was mentioned; big bucks, I know, but it seems it may be necessary if I need to drive the 4 ohm bass horn. With what is mentioned I surmise I can get away with using it for the midrange with the 16 ohm JBL 2445 or 2447 drivers, but definitly not the 4 ohm La Scala bass horn driver (I'm tri-amping) a 'hybrid' horn system I'm putting togeter; marrying my La Scalas to JBL drivers for mid and tweeter; leaving me with just using the Klipsch for the bass horn.
My heart sinks when I hear the mention of the Altec 1596 though. I let a couple of them go by; bidding ended for about $100 less then I paid for this pair of Dukanes (I paid a tad under the $650 mentioned it fetched a decade ago). I dunno why I didn't see that Altec auction through. I guess it's these Output tubes intrigued me more then the Altec.
But anway, with what was said about response extension I think using it somewhere between 800Hz - 4500Hz through 500Hz - 7000Hz [TBD], would be less likely to stress the OPT. I am looking forward to hearing the amp. I do happen to have ARC Classic 150s (one monoblock is 'toasted' from a lightning strike), and a Butler TBD5150 (5 ch hybrid), so I'll have a pretty good baseline to compare them to. I'm an equal opportunity tube gear owner... both modrun and ancient! :D
