I use a 1BX-DS with my TU-9900. It is connected between the TU-9900 and the pre. In addition to the expansion/compression feature, it also has impact recovery and ambience control. These can be found for cheap on Ebay, I bought mine new in the mid 80's. You will find that the settings will more than likely have to be adjusted for each station. A little bit goes a long way and makes quite a dramatic difference. Too much and the music will start to sound like heavy breathing. Adjust with your ears, not by the displays. Have fun and enjoy listening to the music.
