I get it on every station, no matter how close, even with little or no indicated multi-path. I have a rotator and good copper RG6 and good connections. I don't think I have a gain problem, as I get plenty of signal strength even on distant stations. For example, there is a 24.5 KW station over 70 miles away that nearly pegs the signal strength meter and comes in almost as clean as local stations, and another 48 KW station on the top of a mountain about 100 miles away that I pull in pretty well too. The only station I struggle a little with is a college station 20 miles away which transmits 1 KW, V-pol in a really crowded band. The radio locater web site claims this station effectively radiates only 1 W in H-pol, so it's no surprise I have some trouble with it.The more I think about it, the more I think it's an RFI problem. For one thing, the noise seems to be somewhat directional. When listening to strong stations from the south, I often get the quietest background with the antenna pointed SW to W rather than in the direction of maximum signal strength. I think that might be because I'm aiming a null in the pattern at the noise source??? The noise also varies between listening sessions (time of day, weather?).
Thanks for the advice.
Dave
