I am a fan - not rabid, by any stretch - of football and baseball. I'm not so ardent a fan that I can abide sitting and watching them on TV for long stretches, though. I'm almost always wanting or needing to be doing something, particularly on weekends, when most of the football games are played.
Radio, mostly AM radio, has been the great optimizer for me; allowing me to listen to the narrative while also doing chores, yardwork, even electronics projects. Baseball has always struck me as perfect for this, and I've spent many a Saturday or Sunday mowing the lawn or working in the yard while listening in.
Televised sports have gotten more complicated and expensive to view; as leagues and teams strive to 'monetize' their games, it seems one must subscribe to multiple cable or streaming services to follow even one team, let alone multiple sports and teams. Radio has usually been the one reliable source to follow games without all these complexities, especially as over the air television broadcasts have become relatively useless to view games.
