I'm not familiar with the TAD4001, but if the amp has 4-8-16 Ohm taps, you can alter the damping factor by simply connecting a 16 Ohm speaker to the 8 Ohm tap, or an 8 Ohm speaker to the 4 Ohm tap.The output transformer is presented with a step-down condition; i.e.,
a OPT designed with a 10,000 Ohm primary with a secondary load of 16 Ohms, but an 8 Ohm speaker is connected. The primary impedance is now 5000 Ohms, and the output tube(s) is now required to pump more current into this lower load impedance. Damping factor increases. The down side is this: peak plate current increases, distortion increases and power output increases as well.I suggest you try hooking up your speaker to different taps, and listen to the sound. Experiment with the different connections as you listen to your favorite music, and it will not cost you one cent.

Mike
