I just venture out to use silicon diode as the PT is hot to the hand in my Harman Kardon 240 EL84 amp. I have already removed a 12AX7 and 2 12AU7 in the pre though.
The B+ was around 290 Volts.
Before doing it, I was wondering if I should use the 5V filament winding in the PT to be part of the primary to the AC to reduce the B+..?
Anyway, I added 100 ohm to the join cathodes of the EL84. With the FR107 in place, the B+ went up to around 320V, not to bad, the EL84 could still handle it well, with around 26ma each tube.
The sound is a lot better too, esp in the bass, it cleared up the muddiness.
I will try this to ther other amps, as I need to reduce the heat in them.best rgds
