Why choose??? Do both!!! I use a choke between the CCS and tube. It provides a slightly larger plate load this way and the choke filters out much of the hash which can be generated by the diodes in the CCS. A choke is a much better device for filtering the hash and more efficient plate load than a resistor. The CCS can be configured to reduce the hash sound using filter capacitors.

Gary Pimm stacked CCS devices and found the larger the plate load the better (more linear and dynamic) the sound.
