Generally, you don't want to just combine the lines. This is because the output of one channel will not only drive the input of the amplifier, it will attempt to drive the output stage of the other channel! The simple solution is to put about 10K of resistance in each leg. However, I too am interested in the possibility of combining channels with a transformer, and wonder how it would be done.I listened to mono for quite a while and liked it. I have two channels now, thinking I was missing something, but it wasn't much. I would be happy with a mono system again, probably in a corner or something. They're still making reproductions of the Tannoy GRF Autograph cornerhorn in Japan! Tannoy's masterpiece, horn loading goes down to something like 25hz. I visited Susumu Sakuma's restaurant east of Tokyo, and, as they say, nobody asks about "why mono?" after the music starts. PS Sakuma uses a transformer to combine channels.
