The term spud amp was absolutely, positively and without any doubt coined by Dave Dintenfass at a VALVE meeting in my basement in 1994. I The term was first published in VALVE not long after, IIRC to describe Dave's SE 6DN7 amp, and probably used next to describe a 417A amp that he built a few months later. For those of you wrestling with the "proper definition"-A spud amp is simply a one "tuber"- get it?
