ECC99?

You should be able to make a 1 watt SE output with an ECC99, since it has two in the envelope, you would only need one tube for both channels.

To do this without a driver you would need some input voltage, but a CD player at full rated output are a preamp with a little bit of gain should get you right about 1 watt. If you can go with two tubes you could make a differential pair out of the ECC99s with a CCS on the cathodes (I like the Gary Pimm ones), this would give you more than 1 watt and sounds really good. These tubes just barely have enough gain to run without a driver stage which makes them very nice for spuds.
