An obvious question: single-ended from PP amp by killing drive to one side?

I would think it should work, for someone who wanted to try single-ended sound with his/her PP amp (probably best using OP triodes, I suppose). Keeping both output tubes conducting would be necessary to balance the DC in the OPT but could the IP signal to one half of the PP be killed, giving SE output? Obviously, the amp would need to be operated in class A and each half of the PP would need to be self-contained, e.g. no cross-coupled NFB loops. I'm sure this must have been thought of before now, but I've never seen any discussion of it.
