Unless you have a major dc offset on the input jacks you shouldnt blow a fuse.Now if you have a tube that has grid leakage or heater to cathode leakage or a short,that could explain the hum and when you yanked on the input connectors you put a hum or oscillation thru the amp and maybe upset that bad tube and that can blow a fuse.See if you have any dc voltage on the input jacks.If you do find out why.
