Call me illogical if you want, but the idea of spending more on the box than on almost any other component always rubbed me the wrong way. I salvage instrument rack chassis from flea markets, or even built my own from sheet stock. If I can get a complete SACD player from Sony for $127, with a half-way decent chassis included (the SCD-CE595), as just one example, it seems to me that I ought to be able to get a beefier box for cheaper than $100 or 110. The consumer electronics industry has set an expectation for amazingly low prices, whether it’s a computer, a DVD player or a TV set – thanks to China. Maybe your costs just won’t allow bargain pricing, even when made in China, but if you want my business or that of some other folks I know, the prices will have to be lower than our scrounging or DIY alternatives. I’m sure some folks on this forum will want to buy your boxes at those prices, but whether you have a big enough market or not, I can’t say. Look at how many people fabricate pretty wood bases and just use a sheet metal plate on top, for example.Just my opinion…
