RE: Optimizing the Feedback Loop

Procedures for optimizing feedback loops have been discussed in detail at the AudioKarma site. Adjusting the step network at the input stage is only one method for assuring proper response and stability. A phase advance cap across the feedback resistor is nearly always required, and in some cases, a Zobel must also be applied across the OPT. I haven't used Crowhurst's technique. Rather, I use the amplifier's response to a 10kHz square wave as a general tuning tool. There are various means to also test unconditional stability, including driving the amplifier into capacitive loads. All of this is highly dependent on the quality of the output transformer (which imparts the majority of an amplifier's high frequency phase shift) and the overall circuit configuration.
