My 211 SET drives the filament with a 65 kHz squarewave. To my ears, there are no sonic drawbacks. To minimize the possibility that certain sources might create audible IM products, I hope to eventually increase the frequency to 150-200 kHz, and to smooth the wave using 2nd and 3rd harmonic traps.I have compared this approach to both 60 Hz heating and DC. DC was quiet, of course, but lacked the "air" of the two AC designs. I chose an ultrasonic supply, but in fact I would put up with the 120 Hz floor generated by a line-driven filament before I would consider accepting the loss of nuance that occurs with DC.
