For the explaination, but ...Ripple (120 Hz in a full wave rectified supply), as I understand it, is the result of an inadequately filtered power supply. No amount of layout adjustment will effect it, with the possible exception of coupling between the various coils of the power supply magnetic components (transformers and chokes). Hum (60 Hz) and other 'noise' pickup is very much effected by layout (the proper use of shields, wire placement, magnetic component placement, etc).
