Oh yes they do!There is a major misconception about silver and silver oxide on cables. Maybe it's conductive but that's beside the point. Silver oxidises rather slowly - but in any built up area with auto exhaust pollution etc it will form Silver Sulphates/sulphides quite fast - which does worsen the sound noticably.
Just leave some bare recently polished silver out in your local air and it could be black inside a month. It sure did in Munich, a city of about 1 million with a lot of cars!
Once bare silver cabling has gone brown/black - a cleaning will bring back a noticiable improvement - but unless you want to do it weekly - a light spray with polyurethane, C37 or a coating with virgin olive oil will keep it like new with no obvious sonic loss.
