Interstage transformers - mid-priced alternatives?

According to my (not extensive) searching this issue hasn't been addressed directly since 2001... The market has certainly changed in the past few years. Time to revisit.

If one is looking for a pretty good quality interstage transformer, but is on a beer budget, are there any alternatives?

My requirements are not extreme, but not really easy to meet either. I'd like to be able to use a 417a in the first stage (about 40ma) without using a blocking cap arrangement, and still see decent (20hz-25khz?) frequency response. Secondaries should support SE or PP. My personal "beer" budget runs to about $50 each.

Am I dreaming? Seems like Sowter or Lundahl offer options a little out of my specified price range. Any other offerings I haven't noticed?

Also note that I realize others may quibble with my definitions of extreme, decent, beer, etc. If you have info you think would be helpful please, feel free. It is not my desire to debate these definitions though... (Why do I feel it is necessary to say that)?

Gary
