Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

Sure, on paper, or with a pentode amp sometimes, but...

I have yet to have encountered even one instance where ANY
ultralinear or triode-connected push-pull amplifier did not
sound more lively, transparent, present, (better) the second
you cut the feedback loop and re-adjusted and fully bypassed
the first stage. I have tried, I wanted to believe it could
work if "properly applied" --but always ended-up leaving the
feedback switched off in the end. And the more challenging the
loudspeaker load is, the more global feedback tends to mess
up the reproduction.

Yes, yes,...I know all about phase shifts, damping factor,
etc. etc. I have read all of the classsic and seminal dissertations
on feedback theory like everyone else. I just find I care
infinitely more about how an amplifier reproduces music, than how
it measures into a static load.
