Good idea! I just used the tip I had.On the other hand, I really liked the quick heat up of the soldering gun, I could put solder on the top of it, and then draw connecting cable across it to tin it much more easily than the other way around.
Maybe I need a soldering pot? :)
The MPS U60 is what's being used in the PV-12 and later, but I have read notes saying "Not recommended for new designs" which makes me think I should avoid using it. So instead I'm just adding a nice heat sink to it which should keep it a little cooler. The TIPS50 as an output device is working out really well for the output transistor by the way. You have to flip it around, but otherwise it goes right in.
Thanks for the ideas, Stu, I'm still looking for a 100V electrolytic to put in to the heater regulator, and when I do I think that will be one of the final mods.
