the two larger pins are the filaments, so if you remember how you had the tube oriented you can figure what shorted out. You can do a quick check of the amp by leaving the defective or errant position open and turning on the amp. If the other channel plays OK, the amp is probably OK. I would open up the bottom and actually check for burnt components first, however, since you saw smoke!m There aren't many parts in a SET amp.
