I thought of that but the variance in the voltage of a "fresh" D cell would swamp (is greater than) the difference between my two meters. Since they read only about 5% different, I myself did not notice the discrepancy until I was measuring voltages on the order of 200VDC (where for example one meter would read ca 190V and the other 200V). Of course I don't normally measure every voltage with both meters, but in this one instance the first reading made no sense, so I brought out the other meter (the Beckman, in fact). And the reading with the Beckman did make sense; I guess that means my much newer $150-meter is the incorrect one, but I want to be certain.
