can't I prevent saturation in a non-air-gapped output...

....transformer I want to use as a SET tx by simply adding another power supply to run an opposing current through the primary equal to the quiescent current of the set output tube (pair, actually) - (no I can't afford to just replace the output tx's, not till I find a source of nickel-alloy bulk coil to make my own cores and wind my friggin' own)? This is my nutso cheap way of converting the heathkit aa-32 or 100 for that matter from PP to SET; do some rewiring of the output sockets, change the chathode biasing as needed, rewire the primaries of the output tx's, add a cheap counter-current DC extra supply to oppose the quiescent current of the now SET'd parralel pair per channel (convert the inverted driver to non-inverted or just drive the now parralel pair from only the non-inverted driver, remove NFB, triode-strap, remove ultralinear, etc)....is there a problem with this in terms of the output tx? :)
