Thanks..Actually the new tubes do tolerate it but who knows for how long..Thats what I was intending to do was raise the cathode resistance but we also have to contend with the fact that the fil for the 12ax7 is derived from the cathode voltage on the right side el34s. It does sound very good as you say and I did change doubler caps and put in stealth diodes and I thought I had too much B+ but then I realized it was correct.
