RE: NAKAMICHI 682ZX Problem

I am no expert, but try doing the following, if you dare:

Double-check to ensure that the tape you have inserted into the deck has its "write-protect" tabs still in-place. Check the tape monitor switch.

More importantly, if no signal is reaching tape and you have indications that signal is present, the wiring harness which connects to the record head may have come detached. Whenever there is physical motion in a recording device, assume that something like this can eventually come up.

Also, it is common among some Nak decks that miniature film capacitors can fail in the bias circuitry, causing intermittent recording or the total loss of such.

If in doubt, try to have your deck professionally serviced, but try doing some inspection work on your own first.
