According to the LX-5 manual, both Maxell XL-II and XL-IIS are included in the list for TYPE-II tape so both of them are compatible with the tape that NAKAMICHI has used to calibrate their deck for TYPE-II tape formulation and if you use these two tapes on the LX-5, the result should be fine without calibration of the recording equalization.
Both XL-II and XL-IIS are TYPE-II chrome compatible tapes from MAXELL.
