Hi Damian,

Bobby makes some good points there. Also check the tape itself, despite it being new, for a missing pressure pad, or overly soft copper spring on the tapes pad. This would result in improper tape/head contact and would of course do the same thing on your mate's deck too.

It's very unlikely that a tape would damage a head very easily or quickly.
