Re: Cassette restoration

Hello,

Your NAKAMICHI BX-300 has the advanced "double capstan" transport with "pad lifter" that Marantzguy mentioned. (See www.naks.com for more info on Nakamichi tape decks) It could be that your deck is not working properly because it's out of adjustment or a drive motor is wearing out. Or, the magnetic signal on the tape may have been compromised after the tape was recorded.

There are a number of audio restoration services advertised on the WEB who may be able to help you if you can't find someone locally with the right equipment, expertise, etc.

I currently own two cassette decks: A near new TASCAM 302 (broadcast style dual transport deck) and a Nakamichi 681ZX in good condition. If you like, you could mail me one of your father's cassettes and I could see if I could transcribe the audio to a newer medium without too much trouble. This would give you a sense of whether the magnetic signal has been compromised on the tape itself before you spend a lot of money on a professional service.

Cheers.

Peter W.
