I have both TDK and Maxell cassette's that are 20+ years old and older and they both play just fine, and i have had both brands crap out on me also.So i think IMHO they both last just as long and when some folks say,All my 20+ year old TDK's still play fine but all my Maxell's from the same period are unplayable and vise-versa is hogwash. The one's that say all there TDK's are fine are TDK lover's and the one's that say all there Maxell's are fine are Maxell lover's.I think they are both fine tapes after doing extensive test's on both and both have there good points and bad point's but longevity is not one.I think if either is stored properly they both hold up equally well, just my 2 cent's of course.Peace.
