Reel to reel, cassette and other analogue tape formats.

Recent Aquisition: Otari MX5050BQII

On ebay for $270 and local pickup!

I've always wanted one, and now I've got one. Other than missing side panels, it's flawless. Heads recently redone and calibrated, new brakes. Records and plays back perfectly on all four channels. Transport is very responsive and tape handling is superb. I like having the side panels gone because it allows me to reach inside and change the in/out levels on the cards and change speeds from 3.75ips/7.5ips to 7.5ips/15ips as needed.

This one came from one of those "u drop we sell" places. It was local to me in Fairfield, CT, a 20 minute drive. I paid cash and put it in my trunk 2 hours after the auction ended. I was biting my nails the whole way home wondering how it would work out. I was astonished at the condition of the unit-- the best chance I ever took!

Just one question for the tape gurus out here: On the head stack there is a sticker with the letters "JMN" handwritten on it. Any clue who that is?

Based on the location of the unit, it would not be unreasonable to assume that the machine might have come from the home studio of the Tom Tom Club (Tina Weymouth & Chris Frantz) in Fairfield, although there's no way to be certain.

Sweet! Blows my old TD-20A-SE out of the water.
