I have some concert and rehearsal cassette tape recordings of my old band that I want to master and archive to digital.
My question concerns setting the proper playback equalization.
Most of the tapes are Type II/Cr02.
When I play them back on the Type I/Normal setting they sound, as expected, much brighter. In most cases this sounds better to me, but a little sibilant and harsh sometimes.
Am I better off making the transfer using the Type II setting (which I assume is a 'flat' eq setting) and then using the more controllable EQ on my recording software to brighten up the sound? Or does the Type II setting actually cut the high frequencies and I might not be transferring all of the high frequency information?
Most of the recodings were not done with a deck that had 'tape type' settings. Mostly 4track cassette and portable field recorders
Thanks
