Yes, the original connector has external thread on its sleeve.
I am not sure why you would want to use SMPS... I do use some of them in non-critical applications, they are convenient, but in those cases I use the non-threaded DIN connectors.
Here is the picture of one of several such supplies I made for my office Nagra's that I sometimes use for background music, but I never used these in "real" systems.
