Tascam 44 Repair?

I have an old Tascam 44 deck which has some mechanical issues. The reels spin, the capstan spins, but the pinch roller doesn't engage. I assume that some lubricant has dried and gummed up the mechanism.

The other problem is that it weighs about 60+ Lbs, so I really don't want ship it for repair.

A guy in Chicago quoted me ~$400, but that was several years ago. So, the question is:

Do any of you know of a place within, say, 300 miles of Dallas where there's a competent repair person for this sort of thing? Or, is it something I can do myself (I'd prefer not)?

Victor, Stellavox, et al, have you got any ideas/sources?
