Home Tape Trail

Reel to reel, cassette and other analogue tape formats.

I was looking at the TC-772 model...

as I was planning of using it to record my sons' bands while playing at a charity concert at Calgary's Engineered Air Theatre. However, it needed some restorations on it. I'm still looking for the one that doesn't require much work into it and as you know they are few and far between on the used markets. What I liked about the TC-772 model is its 15IPS speed in which in theory it will give a much better S/N ratio and frequency response during live recordings.

On the other hand, I decided to have my old and trusted Revox PR99 MKII restored by a guy who happens to be one of the certified techs for Studer and Revox machines in Canada. He recapped and recalibrated it according to its original parameter and specefications. I'm listening to it now at 15IPS speed from the recording I made from CD that were recorded directly into digital without any compression or mixdowns. Funny thing was these recording were done by Chinese recording engineers in China. I'm hoping that this machine will give me another 20 years of enjoyment.
