Don't worry about it Jon, I had an older Sony deck that slowed the tape down near the end too, a nice feature, it didn't slam the tape end when finished winding and stopped instantly. As long as there's nothing binding the tape inside the cassette shell, or the tape is in contact with the heads while winding your O.K.
