I have a X-10r that played and recorded just fine. The only problem was it was reluctant to change directions from forward to reverse. I replaced the capstan drive belt and pinch rollers and the problem was solved. Now I have a new problem. When I play a pre recorded tape everything is fine. However when I try to record, the recording levels are quite low. It sounds fine when listening to to the source, but when I listen to whats being recorded on the tape I can hardly hear it. It is the same when recording from the pre amp or a microphone. It also is the same in forward or reverse.
Has anyone out there any idea what could be causing this? Could it be the record heads need de-magnitizing? I demagnitized the record heads, but it had no effect. My de-magnitizer is a cheezy Radio Shack job. How do I know it's even working?
