Re: X-10R problems

Thank you for your assistance. I have a couple questions:

You said make sure the you are not using the "EE" position when recording. I have checked the manual and the unit and can find no refrence to "EE". What does "EE" stand for. I know this is a rather basic question. Perhaps something an "EE" (Electrical Engineer) would scoff at, but after all I'm just a "ME" (Mechanical Engineer) What do I know?

Make sure the DBX is turned off: I don't think this unit has DBX. The DBX inputs and outputs on the back are Jumpered. The DBX unit is an outboard device correct? I can find no controls for DBX on the unit .

Once I learn the answers to these two questions I will be in a better position to say if I have or have not elliminated the obvious.

I don't think it's a head issue. I think it's unlikely both heads would die at the same time and I have the problem both in forward and reverse. One thing I have yet to try is squirt some cleaner on the pin connections to the main pc board. I had to remove most of these connections to get at the belt. It's possible one is dirty.

If it's not something obvious, or a dirty pin my next plan is to take it to a *Qualified* tech. I have a good friend who qualifies, I just like to eliminate all options before I clutter his bench with my junk.

Thanks!

Jim
