Revox A77 blowing fuses upon pressing play

I just acquired a nice A77. everything seems to work so far, but when play is pressed with the reel motors on, the reels turn for a second and the 1 amp fuse under the door at the back of the deck blows. If the reel motors are off and play is pressed, the pinch roller flips up and back down but the fuse doesn't blow. Has anyone run into this before and found the problem?
