clifff is right on about the switch that turns off the motors.i've been working on this deck and found a bad cap and, as a result, a resistor fried. parts are on the way!
i previously wrote:
"If the reel motors are off and play is pressed, the pinch roller flips up and back down"
come to think of it, this is correct. if the pinch roller stayed up (which means it's against the capstan) with the reel motors off there would be no way to advance the tape by hand.clifff, yes, the motors turn freely by hand. everything about this deck is mint except for aged caps. i dont think the previous owner ever really used it!
