Studer A810 input level control

Hi,

I can't seem to get my newly acquired Studer A810 to adjust the input level. I have everything connected correctly, if I record from phono the signal is -20db and lots of tape hiss, if from CD, the signal peaks at -10db. I have the record mode set to 'input'
then press 'ready', still cannot adjust input level.

Any suggestions ?
