The little "Reserved for..." thingy was what we now call "corporate partnering" - a promo for BeyerDynamic microphones. I still have the ones which came with my Mk IV.And, yes, you could buy an A77 with speakers.
I'm not sure about the "variable speed box" being an option. I've not heard of that. The speed control circuitry of the A77 was designed in a way which made it difficult to add a variable speed control, and there isn't a jack where one could be inserted. However, Swiss electronic music composer Jacques Guyonnet had a speed control custom-designed for his A77s back in 1974 which worked very well. How do I know this? I had the opportunity to learn from him back then for a couple of days, and I'll never forget being scolded for having turned a level control the evening before the next morning's session - I made a no-no. His wonderful wife Genevieve was also quite involved in their music creation. Sadly, she died of breast cancer quite some years ago.
