I record at 24/88.2 and never leave a site without making a CD copy first (not an audio CD, a data file CD).DAT is ancient history. Flash in the pan. Cumbersome, limited. When it was new and cool, I wanted an HHB. Fortunately, my limited funds were spent on preamps and microphones. And my 2-track 15 ips Revox A77 is still running just fine, as is my razor blade editing tool.
Edit: Funny story. After recording a high school band concert a few years ago, I decided to do a bit of editing out some unnecessary time, and it got to where I was the last person in the auditorium. Someone thought the place was empty, and turned off all the lights. Do you have any idea how dark a windowless auditorium is without lights? I was like "hey, I'm still in here!"
