I'd recommend checking the screws that hold the power chips down. I found that I had to re-torque the screws every 10 years or so, depending on the isolating pads and lockwasher type. The thermal expansion coefficient for an aluminum heatsink is different than the screws, so thermal cycling tends to work the screws loose. Yes, I know 1998 is not ten years, but the cooling on my power amps keeps the sink assembly below 50oC under any load and power conditions...you're class A may have higher excursions.
