It seems to me that one of the chief reasons many tube amps sound different is that many of them have a high output impedance, which varies with frequency, to make things more complicated. Many of them simply do not have a flat FR into many speaker loads. Stereophile began including this in their measurement "suite" a few years later, I think. My favorite example is linked below from the BHK Labs measurements on the Soundstage site.The first time I saw this pointed out was in an article by E. Brad Meyer in Stereo Review for June 1991 which can be found at the following URL:
