... while kistening to music, with wires of normal lengths intended for audio use, with brand names hidden, and both wires playing at the same average SPL. A "pure" comparison of sound quality.Audiophiles who try have seemed unable to identify which wire is in use ... for three decades!
Many tests have been done, sometimes with free wires that come with cheap components versus quite expensive wires, as if the tester was trying to bias the comparison to make diifferences easier to hear.
For one example of a typical experience: I participated in one DBT of 10 feet of Rat Shack 14AWG zip cord versus a $1000 Tara Labs speaker cable -- no one in the audio club could prove he heard any difference.
It's easy to say "I know what I hear", but so far with wires it seems impossible to prove to any witnesses that differences are really audible.
Sometimes our beliefs are not facts.
Many audiophiles really think they hear differences during blind comparisons ... but their scorecards reflect random guessing on whether component A or B is in use.
This has happened to me.
It can happen to anyone.
