Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

I'm not here to solve things....

Just to stir the pot a bit! It'd be killer of someone sent me some free test cd's, i'd be all about that.

Its like we're all PHD's in Atronomy yet some of us doubt the existence of stars. :) you gotta take me tongue in cheek - please note that i think a $1000 pc is $1000 spent the wrong way. However, homemade cords with Oyaide plugs and DH Labs cord ($225) make an extraordinary difference to my computer, cable box, tv, amp, cd player, phono, etc, etc, etc. For $100 less the Furu Fi-11 plugs rock too.

My point is that if my mom, who hates stereos, and my girlfriend and all my friends (and everyone else who I've put through the pain of a test) can easily discern the differences....why can't a bunch of guys who thrive on this stuff AND have ears that are hell bent on hearing 'the best' sound from our investments?

If you have any doubt to the effect of this test and own a good sounding tt, a standalone burner & a few high end pc's, try this at home...you'll be surprised. LP's through a cd player (CD copies of LP's that is) have really incredible dynamics. I don't ever use software to remove pops, hiss or clicks of anytype...i'm a bit of a purist and would never have enough time or energy to re-draw waveforms. My aim is to make it right before it goes onto the CD. I only use software to trim and split tracks.

I think in order for a test like this to have any legitamcy (which it won't) you would need a guy from both camps to meet at someone's house to actually rip the master CD's....that way you can quell some issues with fairness. Also, the people receiving the test CD's would not be told which is which. The CD's would simply be marked A or B, and then the testers can report their findings without bias, in the comfort of their own homes. Only the guys who originally ripped the CD's would know.

Not sure how to do this next part, but then having the A/B CD's mixed up before the final mailing might help too...again only the moderators would know. this way not everyone's A would be the same, etc, etc.

i'm not volunteering for this, just putting the idea out to those with much nicer set-ups than mine. However, if anyone is in Chi-town and wants to buddy up to try this, i'm down.
