I would suggest that the more balanced the physical CD is, the less light reflectivity in the substrate and the less the error correction circuitry is employed, the purer the fidelity and ease of the CD transport and reader to deliver what is on the actual medium without introducing different data than intended. As you have stated, the finer the QC in actual production, the less the modifications change the overall sound.I would look toward error correction circuitry and the power it drains from the rest of the platform, not to mention what is introduced in the data stream by such error correction.
This is my only plauseable theory at this time. too bad others have not chimed in. Yes Clark, mods to the CD are audible and measureable after the DAC, measuring the final analog signal.
Caveat emptor.
Me thinks folks are too busy arguing and protecting adjendas to car about improving the musicality. Lot of time waisted do that eh?
(BTW, I took your advice and did some actual measuring..results are conclusive...you kept me up all night with that damnit..be we now both know.)
